Classical Music Junkey
While i was enjoying the timeless Schindler’s
list soundtrack, I realized that this is not a common thing to do in Morocco.
Morocco has
a rich cultural variety that results in having a deferent musical tastes, yet
most of Moroccans do not appreciate other types of music, to be a lover of symphonies,
sonatas and classical musical pieces which results sometimes in endless
discussions between friends and family due to the cultural differences we have
from the westerns culture.
There is another thing which we can call in
these lines, musical prejudices.
For instance: if a family member hears you enjoying, let’s say a metallic song, he/she would automatically classifies you as a satanic punk. The same thing can apply on listening to sonatas or artistic musical pieces, they would identify you as arrogant, fake or trying to be something you are not, while in reality, you are just enjoying the art and connecting with what you are hearing.
When it
comes to me, I feel like classical music helps me connect with myself & my
mind which makes me understand humanity better from my own perspective. I believe
that listening to classical music develops the listening skills; it takes
active listening skills to connect with it.
Most of us
have feelings that we sometimes don’t know about their existence within us. Those
feelings, if not recognized and interpreted, ruin us and accumulate a certain
energy that starts to eat our inside. There are plenty of things that help us
recognize those feelings and one of them is active listening to classical
musical masterpieces. Later on I will share a list of my favorite pieces for
you to enjoy and help you to start your own journey.
I think we
need to nurture our inner selves. Pinpointing our feelings, strength and weaknesses
is a crucial task, because it helps us increase our emotional intelligence, creativity
& sets the base for our personal development. It fosters the understanding
of ourselves.
It’s definitely more important to nurture our
inner selves than to nurture relationships, because once it all ends, we remain
alone, this emotional strength that we already took care of it is the one that
stands with us in tough situations and helps us to move on.
Musical
masterpieces raised my cultural awareness which made me (a Moroccan girl) look
weird around my entourage. I was perceived as cocky and arrogant, meanwhile classical
music inspired me to improve myself, start writing and appreciate other aspects
of life. Therefore I am writing this article in an attempt to inspire you as
well to start your own personal development either by listening to Music or
using another way to help you discover your feelings.
